A one-day course focusing on the economic and environmental benefits of green roofs. Delivered in association with The Green Roof Centre – the UK’s leading centre of excellence for green roof technology. www.thegreenroofcentre.co.uk
Senior managers, architects, landscape architects, installers, planners, building owners, developers, environment managers
The course is divided into two sections; the morning session consists of presentations and in the afternoon delegates will make site visits to some of the most inspiring green roofs in the UK.
A green roof is an effective way to reduce a building’s operational costs, help meet planning requirements and protect against the impact of future climate change. A green roof can also contribute to the demonstration of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
This one day course will tell you everything you need to know about the implementation and benefits of green roofs, without getting your hands dirty. Green and living roofs are layers of vegetation that sit on top of a conventional roof surface. They offer a very wide range of environmental and economic benefits; in particular cooling properties in summer, ability to significantly reduce rainwater run-off from roofs and their value in promoting biodiversity and habitat in built-up areas.
Green roofs play a significant role in sustainable and green construction. Moreover, because they are often highly visible, they signal intent for sustainable building and can give a very positive and distinctive impression about the occupants’ green credentials. If you would like to explore what green roofs can do for your company, then this is the course for you.

The Green Roof Centre’s primary remit is to engage and inform professionals within the built environment about the possibilities and benefits of green roofs. Based at the University of Sheffield, the Centre was born out of the fact that the UK is lagging behind many other part of the world, especially the US and northern Europe, in its applications of green roofs. The Centre now has a strong background in green roof design and development, and provides consultancy services to some of the largest developers and Government agencies.
Jeff Sorrill has managed the Green Roof Centre since its inception in early 2007. He has been involved in all aspects of green roof design and construction and is now regarded as one of the UK’s leading green roof experts.
